UWSinKC has been initiated with an understanding that the work of dismantling racism and white supremacy systemically, culturally and within ourselves happens best in community.
These unlearning circles are being created as a place for people in BDSM, Kink and Leather Communities to explore white supremacy culture, racism and colonialism; to critically examine how we experience it in our communities; and to understand our role and responsibilities in undoing racism. They are an opportunity to increase our capacity for the work of repairing race-based harm. There will be no quick fixes and no expectations of perfectionism. There will likely be displays of defensiveness and denial but with on-going practice, we can hold ourselves and each other accountable.
We are mentored and supported by Undoing White Supremacy Austin (UWSA) a group which is supported in turn by the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB) and we acknowledge this lineage with gratitude. We also acknowledge our gratitude and accountability to our partners among BIPOC leadership in the BDSM, Kink and Leather Communities who are actively working with us.
